  • Animation Fundamentals (6th -12th)

During your week, you will learn about how to use state-of-the-art animation software, create your own character, and develop short animations. A variety of basic techniques will be taught to ensure you learn the key fundamentals of animation and can continue to create new worlds of your own. Take all this to the next level, next week with Animation Intensive!

  • Character Design (6th thru 12th)

    Students will create a character to be based in a fantasy world. They will design their character and come up with a backstory, personalities, choose a race, class, and learn how to make their characters feel realistic to an audience. Students will create character sheets, draw up weapons and props, and more.

    Skill level required: Student’s who enjoy drawing faces/full bodies and are comfortable with sketching/brainstorming.

  • Mean Girls JR. (2 Week Musical) (3RD - 12TH)

  • Animation Intensive (6th thru12th)

You‚ will build a foundation in art and animation with principles used by professionals like Disney animators, across industries including game design and illustration. Then, you‚ will apply those concepts to design characters, animate your own stories, and develop a polished portfolio using the powerful suite of Adobe software.   • Foley Art (6th thru12th)

    Students will learn about Foley Art, which is taking film (animation or movie) and making sounds for it through the use of practical objects and everyday items in a recording studio for pitch perfect audio. From using wet rags on linoleum floors, broom sticks, rocks & sands, and anything else that can be found within reach, students will learn and understand how to psychologically trick the human brain to believe some ordinary sounds can relate to different actions they view and watch on the screen.

    This camp would make a wonderful pairing to the Adobe Premiere Pro Film Camp or the Podcast Studio or BOTH!

  • Figure Study (6th thru 12th)

    This camp will explore fundamental techniques to capture human figure form from both direct observations and reproductions using various media such as pencils, conte crayon, clay, paints and more. Campers will build their confidence in understanding the fundamentals on anatomy, body gesture, and proportions from realistic portraits to comic book heroes.

  • Forensic Science (6th thru 12th)

    This is a fun and exciting program that teaches students the skills and methods used by forensics scientists, crime scene technicians and detectives to solve real crimes. The program culminates with the investigation of a simulated, age-appropriate crime scene containing actual physical evidence.

  • The Art of Playwriting (6th thru 12th)

    This 5-day camp will provide young storytellers a space to explore the art of playwriting through short exercises, games, group workshopping, and a culminating public reading. Aspiring writers will gain the tools and confidence to create their own full-length plays by developing a greater understanding of character development, plot structure, and engaging dialogue.   • Ceramics & Sculpture (6th thru 12th)

    Want to carve out a week of fun and experimenting with 3-D materials? In this exciting weeklong lesson, you will be able to sculpt your very own ceramics sculpture! We will learn how to manipulate clay and other 3-D materials. This class will cover the basic ideas of sculpture and students will leave this week with a solid knowledge of materials and techniques ranging from metal to clay.
  • Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS (Two Week Musical) (3rd - 12th )

    Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS is a 30-minute musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.   • Steel Drums (6th thru 12th)

    Students will learn to play steel drums from Trinidad. We will play typical steel pan music from the Caribbean, plus some other fun songs from many different cultures. Students will learn about the pan, where it came from; how it was developed, and how the pans are made. We will end the week with a performance of the songs learned in camp.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Film Camp (6th thru 12th)

    Students will learn how to operate a DSLR camera and the equipment that goes along with it to record professional grading audio and video. From there, students will learn the pre production techniques such as scriptwriting and storyboarding. Once the students learn these elements, they will be able to import video files into Adobe Premiere Pro and learn how to cut, edit, add special effects, color correction, alter audio, and other techniques that will make them a master of video editing.

  • Veterinary Care 101 (6th thru 12th)

    Learn the best practices for animal care with animals living in the camp. Practice grooming – including cleaning of teeth, eyes and ears as well as coat brushing and bathing – and learn how to look for and treat common illnesses.

  • Learn to Fly - Aerial Silks (6th thru 12th)

    Get up into the air while learning the fundamentals of aerial arts on silks while building strength and flexibility. Instruction will include performing basic movements and tricks, how to gain body awareness while airborne and use of the apparatus.

  • Web Design (HTML,CSS,JS) (6th thru 12th)
    Students will learn the fundamentals of website-building using HTML,CSS, and JavaScript. We will create everything from scratch with only code. We will practice logical thinking and creative problem solving. Students will develop a keen eye for detail and be able to show off a fully functional website by the end of the week!

Week 4

  • Water Warriors (6th thru 12th)

    Adventure awaits at Water Warriors Camp! Embark on an adventure-filled week that lets you dive into the wonders of water, understanding its crucial role in our lives and environment. Master kayaking, unreel the science and art of fishing, and delve into hands-on streamside studies. Throughout the week you’ll get to blend recreation and fun with environmental stewardship, scientific inquiry, and creative expression. Discover how water shapes our world and how you can make a difference.

    *This camp is best suited for rising 6th thru 9th.

  • Graphic Design (6th thru 12th)
    $335.00
    This camp takes you on the tour through the essential Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator techniques to make you successful in some up and coming design fields. This camp focuses on fundamentals of print design practices as well as elements and principals of design and Typography. You will be making aesthetically pleasing posters, illustrations and custom digital art. By the end of class you should have a small portfolio that you can continue to add and craft your specific style around.

    Instructor: Grace Guillebeau – Teaches 9-12th grade 2D and 3D visual arts at McKean High School. Education: bachelor’s degree in Elementary Ed from the University of Delaware. Residency at The San Francisco Art Institute and Master of Education from Midway University.

  • Law & Order (6th thru 12th)
    $335.00
    Campers work as part of an elite team of investigators and professionals to solve a murder. Campers are involved with every phase of the legal process, from the crime scene investigation to the criminal murder trial.

    Campers will gain experience with evidence gathering and testing techniques, such as, impressions, forensic odontology (bite marks), fingerprints, chemical analysis, hair and fibers, and blood typing.

    Finally, campers will learn how to prepare a case for a mock trial. “Dun-Dun!”

  • Veterinary Care 201 (6th thru 12th)
    $350.00

    Campers will focus on animals from before birth to adulthood and practice care during their life emergencies including injections and drawing blood. We will PLAN to witness the hatching of ducks or quails and continue to care for them through the week (depending on when/if they hatch). We will discover the heart and blood flow, explore the formation of bones and the vertebrae, as well as creating models to represent each structure. To explore anatomy further, we will dissect pigs in groups to better understand the inner workings. An episode of Dr. Pol will be shown to experience what’s real vet would experience. Barn Hill preserve will be visiting to present their animal ambassadors, including several marsupials. Several animals will also be visiting throughout the week to learn about them and handle them.

    Due to some graphic experiences, we are limiting the program to 6th grade and up.

  • Aerial Silks Intensive (3rd - 12th)

    This camp will focus on these skills: Our main wraps will origami shapes with a lot of fabric, crossback straddle entrances and exits, ankle hangs, and flips and climbing. Prior experience is required!

    Get ready to embark on a new cinematic journey. Each day will focus on a well-known and well-loved movie paired with themed stem activities, crafts, and delicious snacks. Grab your popcorn and get ready to view cinema through a whole new lens.
  • Technical Theater (Stage Tech) (6th thru 12th)

    What does it take to bring a show to life? A LOT and it’s all behind-the-scenes. Join Cab Calloway’s Technical Theater Instructor as well as current Cabbie Tech majors for this one-week opportunity to learn all aspects of Technical Theater.

  • Blender 3D Class (3D Modeling & Animation) (6th thru 12th)
    Blender 3D is the world’s most popular and free 3d modeling and animation software. Students will learn fundamental concepts of 3d-geometry, modeling, sculpting, keyframing, physics-simulations, and digital-rendering. By the end of the week, students will showcase and present their 3d creations! If you have a passion for the 3d world and digital creations, this class is perfect for you!

Week 5

  • Podcast Studio (6th thru 12th)

    Students will learn how to create a Podcast. From writing a script, topics, and other content to speak on, to using microphones, broadcast software, and other equipment in relation to seamless transitions and edits, students will learn multiple advanced techniques that can be used in several avenues.

  • Amazing World of Anime (6th thru 12th)

    Anime is a Japanese animation style that features colorful, stylistically drawn, action-oriented figures. Students will learn to adopt this vibrant style while giving their own style to it.

    • Learn brief anime history through interactive talks, and understand how the American animation pipeline differs from the Japanese pipeline.
    • Learn through daily interactive exercises in which we will break down how hair, bodies, and facial features are often stylized and analyze how that may be incorporated into their styles and aesthetic tastes. (will spend separate days focusing on drawing features, expressions, action poses, and finding ways to incorporate the anime style into your style.)

  • How Can I Make it Look Real? (6th thru 12th)

    It’s a satisfying feeling when one can mimic life in their drawing when that is the artist’s goal. In this course, we will work from observation and imagined in order to establish a better understanding of drawing to make something appear realistic. Here are some of the topics we will go over.

    How to draw cats / dogs: Like humans, animals have their own anatomy and understanding their structure will greatly ease your drawing process. We’ll be starting with a simplified skeleton, made from basic shapes and forms. Then we’ll go over the rendering process and build up detail. We’ll also be drawing stylized and cuter versions of these animals for fun!

    Lighting Techniques: Of the fundamentals, lighting is an exquisite one to spend time on. Light can be an impactful element. It can act as a focal point or even suggest something in a narrative. Let’s try value study (dark/light) with a variety of drawing media.

    How to draw hands & Feet: Our hands and feet are complicated, organic and beautiful! Many artists often find themselves in situations of needing them in paintings, character designs or comics. We will be doing an easy breakdown of the hand/feet structure, and also try drawing different gestures.

    How to draw a face (male / female): We will discuss proportions of the face; ensuring eyes, nose, mouth and ears are always placed correctly. With practice and better understanding, by the end of this lesson, you will be more confident to draw faces.

  • Introduction to Stage Make-up Design/Application (6th thru 12th)

    If you ever wanted to try your hand at stage makeup this is the class for you! This class will explore the basics of makeup design and how to do it on paper as well as on your own face. Part of the class is getting in tune with your own facial anatomy to design makeup looks specifically for you but will also allow you a better understanding of how to best tune makeup to anyone. We will focus on three categories  of makeup design: corrective, old age, and effects (3D elements, bruises, cuts and blood). The make up kits that will be supplied will contain everything you need for the class and all your creations. This a valuable skill you can use in any theatre performance you do for the rest of your life and it’s fun!

  • Paper Quilling (6th thru 12th)

    The Paper Quilling is insanely cool art and fun to learn. This camp is designed for beginner and intermediate level. Students will learn how to make paper quilling animals, flowers and many more exciting things. The camp will start with a demonstration of basic paper quilling shapes and will take you to an advanced level of how to articulate these pieces to bring up the artwork. Using all these skills, you will create your own pieces of art to take back home. The practice of quilling dates back hundreds of years to the Renaissance.
  • Watercolor Texture Lab (6th thru 12th)

    Both beginners and intermediate artists are welcome to this delightful exploration of what can be achieved with watercolor and everyday household items. Participating artists will leave with a toolbox of techniques they can use to elevate their water media works as well as a completed masterpiece that utilizes a variety of textures.
  • Adobe Photoshop Class (Graphic Design) (6th thru 12th)
    Photoshop is an essential tool for graphic designers and is the industry standard in it’s category. Students will learn the fundamentals of graphic-design concepts, layering, blending styles, masking, and so much more with Adobe Photoshop. Students will be able to fully express their creativity and use Photoshop as their canvas. Students will display their artistic creations at the end of the week!  If you’re creatively inclined and looking to learn a new medium in the digital world, this class is for you!
  • Vet Care Livestock (3rd thru 12th Grades)

    Sheep and goats and pigs oh, my!  Livestock, livestock everywhere! Students will learn the importance  of livestock to our lives and explore how to manage livestock. Herding, feed ratios, grooming and hoof care, bandaging of their feet, animal products and so much more will be topics to discover.

    * Students will need to be dropped off at Conrad School of Science for this camp at 8:30am and picked up at Conrad by 3:00 PM. Students must also pack a lunch.
